Biographical history
Mary Mahon was born in County Armagh, Ireland, probably in the 1890s. She came to Canada early in the 20th century. She lived in the municipality of Maisonneuve (later Montreal). According to her obituary she was a staunch adherent to the cause of Irish liberty. She was the first person to fly the Sinn Fein flag in Canada, in 1918. She died in Montreal on August 17, 1943.
Custodial history
Materials were transferred to the Concordia University Archives by Michael Kenneally, Chair of the Centre for Canadian Irish Studies at Concordia University. Materials were given to the Centre for Canadian Irish Studies by Mary Mahon's daughters, Mary and Annie Barett.
Scope and content
The materials in the fonds document the political and religious life of an Irish immigrant living in Montreal in the early 20th century.
The fonds includes correspondence, flags, and various memorabilia.
