Originally named the Concordia Concert Hall the venue was renamed for acclaimed Montreal pianist Oscar Peterson in 1999.

Samuel H. Schecter, a Montreal entrepreneur and benefactor of this university at the official opening of the Weissman Gallery in the Henry F. Hall Building. Schecter established a fund to collect contemporary art, which later resulted in the outstanding Sir George Williams University Collection of Canadian Art. Percy Weissman, Montreal industrialist, whose donation allowed the construction of an additional art gallery facilities at SGW University. The new art gallery located on the mezzanine of the Henry F. Hall Building, bears his name.
