Collection Thomas D’Arcy McGee

La collection témoigne de la vie de Thomas D'Arcy McGee et de ses relations avec sa famille.

Elle est constituée principalement de documents copiés de diverses sources archivistiques copiés par Timothy Slattery pour son livre, The Assassination of D'Arcy McGee, publié en 1968.

La collection comprend environ 50 lettres originales entre Thomas D'Arcy McGee et des membres de sa famille. Elle inclut aussi plusieurs photographies dont une est un portrait de McGee par William Notman. Elle inclut aussi des coupures de presse et des objets.

Fonds Bellelle Guerin

Le fonds Bellelle Guerin documente la vie et l'œuvre de la famille Guerin. Les documents contenus dans le fonds se rapportent principalement aux carrières de John Edmund Guerin et de Bellelle Guerin, mais contient également des documents concernant d'autres membres de la famille Guerin. Deux albums documentent la carrière politique de John Edmund Guerin en tant que maire de Montréal depuis son élection en 1910 jusqu'en 1912. Ces albums contiennent également des documents concernant des événements importants survenus au cours de son mandat, notamment le Congrès eucharistique international, les visites d'Earl Grey et du duc et de la duchesse de Connaught, et la mort du roi Édouard VII, entre autres. Un troisième album contient des informations relatives à l'élection de 1917 et à la Ligue des femmes catholiques du Canada. Certains documents sont également liés à Thomas ou Mary Carroll Guerin. Le quatrième album contient des coupures d'articles de journaux, dont la plupart ont été écrits par Thomas Guérin, le père de Bellelle. Ces articles portent sur le travail de Thomas Guerin en tant qu'ingénieur civil à Montréal dans les années 1870 et 1880 et documentent un certain nombre de ses préoccupations, notamment les problèmes d'égouts et les inondations à Montréal.
Le fonds Bellelle Guerin est composé de 4 albums contenant des coupures de presse et des souvenirs, ainsi qu'une épinglette donnée à James John Edmund Guerin lors du congrès eucharistique de 1910.

Il reflète les intérêts des Irlandais montréalais dans la culture de leur pays d’origine. Le fonds contient également des informations sur d'autres organisations liées aux communautés irlandaises d'Amérique du Nord, notamment sur l'Irish American Heritage Society.

Le fonds porte sur la communauté irlandaise de Montréal du 19ieme et début du 20ieme siècle, et son vue d’Irlande et de la culture irlandaise. Quelques documents sont reliés au “United Irish Societies of Montréal” (U.I.S.) et au Société Saint-Patrick de Montréal, aussi qu’à Thomas d’Arcy McGee, et autre sont en liens avec James McAran, un marchande Montréalais de l’époque. Le fonds continent aussi des informations sur la Question Irlandaise et ses réactions au Canada, recueillies par James Albert Whittaker dans un album de coupures de presse dans les années 1920 à 1923, augmenté par de la correspondance et quelques brochures de la même période.

Le fonds contient quatre albums et plusieurs documents séparés. Les albums consistent d’une collection de cartes postales, de chansons et poèmes irlandaises, de photographies de famille, et de coupures de presse sur la Question Irlandaise. De plus, le fonds inclue, sans se limiter, des journaux, des feuilles de musique, des brochures, de la correspondance, une carte d’Irlande, des dessins (incluant les originaux du logo des United Irish Societies of Montréal), et une allocution sur l'histoire irlando-canadienne donnée par John O'Farrell, président de la « Hibernian Benevolent Society of Québec », lors du bal de la Société Saint-Patrick en 1872.

Le fonds renferme de l'information sur la communauté irlandaise de Montréal et sur l’histoire, les activités et le fonctionnement de la St. Patrick's Society. Il n’y a pas de documents originaux avant 1863; ils ont probablement été détruits lors de l’incendie du St. Patrick’s Hall en 1872.

Le fonds contient surtout des documents administratifs, des procès-verbaux, de la correspondance, des documents financiers, des programmes, des photographies, des coupures de presse et des documents imprimés.

The fonds contains some handouts on the Cathespian Guild and a few programs and photographs of some of the annual Catholic Drama Festivals. It also contains the Drama Festival award book entitled Award for Distinguished Achievement in Catholic Theatre.

Alan Hustak fonds

The fonds is related to Alan Hustak’s work as a journalist and author.
It consists mostly of research material on the Quebec physician and Montreal mayor of Irish origin Sir William Hales Hingston, (1829-1907). The material was collected by Alan Hustak in preparation of his book Sir William Hingston : Montreal Mayor, Surgeon and Banker, published in 2004.
The research material and articles on pilot Albert Mah (1920-2005) and Canadian broadcaster Jimmy Tapp (1918-2004) give an insight in Hustak’s work as a journalist. The fonds also includes photographs of singer Norma Hutton.

The fonds includes without limitations correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, brochures, manuscripts, book chapters and personal documents. Most documents are reproductions, made in the 1990s or later.

Patricia Burns fonds

The fonds documents an oral history project of the Irish of Montreal made by Patricia Burns on behalf of the St. Patrick's Society of Montreal between 1990 and 1992. The materials were used by Patricia Burns for her book The Shamrock and the Shield : an oral history of the Irish in Montreal.

The fonds is mainly composed of sound recordings and transcriptions of 54 interviews conducted by Patricia Burns and some by Kevin O'Donnell, with people of Irish origin living in Montreal, and many having grown up in Griffintown.
