Ralph Whims collection

The Ralph Whims Collection contains documentation concerning Black History in Montreal; the Negro Community Centre; Union United Church, the Coloured Women’s Club; The Red Feather and the Welfare Federation; Railway Porters; the Elks; the documentary film Show Girls; and Jazz in Montreal. The collection is comprised of articles and clippings; photographs; posters, brochures, and programs; books and magazines; and a videocassette.

The Hour collection is composed of 72 bound volumes of the Hour newspaper published between 1993 and 2011 and those issues published under the name Hour Community in 2011 and 2012. The bound volumes comprise almost every issue of Hour and Hour Community published between February 1993 and May 2012, with the exception of volume 2, numbers 18 to 35 (1994), which are missing from the collection. The collection also contains the prototype of Hour.

Fonds consists of material accumulated and created by Derek Stanford about Christopher Fry. It also contains documents created by Christopher Fry. Materials in this fonds are primarily dated 1969-1970, though select documents are dated 1955.

Materials include correspondence, manuscripts, published essays and reviews, newspaper clippings, photographs, theater programs, and other ephemera documenting Stanford professional relationship with Fry and the British playwright’s work. Documents primarily concern Fry’s A Yard of Sun (1970) and his English translation of Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt (1970). The fonds also contains limited material regarding A Sleep of Prisoners (1951). Documents also concern essays about the life and work of Christopher Fry written by Derek Stanford.

The fonds documents the career of drummer Russell (Russ) Dufort. It includes materials related to Dufort's time with the Johnny Holmes Orchestra, the Stardusters, and the Royal Canadian Airforce band. The fonds also includes arrangements purchased from Russell Dufort from the Escorts.

The David Clark fonds provides insight into the career of musician David Clark in the second half of the 20th century. It documents Dave Clark’s professional activity as an instrumentalist, bandleader, arranger and transcriber; and as a teacher. The fonds also documents Dave Clark’s involvement in the Fossils Club of Montreal and serves to document some of the club's musical performances.

The fonds includes musical scores, sheet music, and song books, covering both classical music and jazz; scripts for plays; programs; sound recordings; plaques; and photographs. In addition to published music, the fonds includes music arranged or transcribed by Dave Clark and other musicians.

The Peter Madden fonds is composed of materials spanning Peter Madden’s career as a writer from the 1970s to the beginning of the 21st century. A major part of Peter Madden’s work reflects his experience in prison.

Documents include manuscripts, drafts, scripts, notes, correspondence, journals, notebooks and press clippings related to performances of Peter Madden's plays. The fonds contains examples of both published and unpublished poems, short stories, plays, and screenplays. It permits to follow the development of a play from the idea to its final version.
