The purpose of the Oral History-Montreal Studies program is to document the history of the Montreal metropolitan area. Sponsored by Shell Canada, the program funds projects which make accessible the oral history of Greater Montreal, through systematic interviewing of leaders and witnesses of the labour, industrial, cultural, social, religious, and ethnic scene since World War II. The project is administered by the Concordia University Library.

The collection provides information on the history of Greater Montreal. It consists of recorded interviews of individuals as well as some transcripts and application forms for some of the projects. The projects are:

The fonds provides information on Montreal's Black jazz scene from the 1920s to the 1960s, chronicling the lives of three women - Tina Baines Brereton, Bernice Jordan Whims, and Olga Spencer Foderingham - who danced in night clubs such as Rockhead's Paradise, The Terminal, and Café St. Michel.

The fonds consists of materials gathered, and in some cases created, during the National Film Board of Canada's production of Show Girls / Les Girls. It includes research notes, edited sequences on videotape, video tapes and transcripts of interviews with the film's principals, audio tapes of interviews with various sources, stock footage, shot lists, clippings of night clubs ads, historical reference books, and VHS copies of the documentary.

The fonds documents the career of drummer Russell (Russ) Dufort. It includes materials related to Dufort's time with the Johnny Holmes Orchestra, the Stardusters, and the Royal Canadian Airforce band. The fonds also includes arrangements purchased from Russell Dufort from the Escorts.

The fonds is composed of annotated scores, set lists, photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, a business card, a membership card, swizzle sticks from Montreal clubs, and a wooden box used by the Escorts to transport their music, among other materials.

The fonds is related to Jack Gillmore’s work as an actor, writer, and director of Canada’s first radio plays in Vancouver, B.C. between 1925-1935. Gillmore was a member of the CNRV Players and performed over a hundred plays on the radio including but not limited to, “Peg O’ My Heart”, “R.U.R.”, and “The Zepplin’s Passenger” (Zeppelin's Passenger). Gillmore’s memoir includes his reminiscences on his career on the radio, his experiences as a car salesman in the 1920s, his marine equipment businesses in the 1930s and 1940s, and events he lived through between 1902 and 1977. The fonds also includes material relating to the deposit.

The fonds is about the personal and professional life of Denis Diniacopoulos as a photographer and a teacher.
There are personal letters, documents, passports and diplomas, as well as various photographs, negatives, proofsheets and slides created by Denis Diniacopoulos in his work. You can also find teaching materials that he used and a number of photographs by his students. There's also various publications to which Denis Diniacopoulos contributed throughout his work.

The fonds mainly provides information on Keith White’s life as musician and on Jazz music in Montreal, in the 1950s and 1960s. There is also information on Keith White’s various working and teaching experiences, and his friendships.

The fonds is composed of more than 500 music recordings; music scores; five unpublished texts of reminescence such as Noting the Scene [1989]; six texts on mathematics; and around 200 photographs (prints, slides, and digital).

The fonds contains documentation pertaining to the career of the jazz musician Ted Elfstrom and provides information on the Mart Kenney Orchestra, the Ted Elfstrom Octet, the Montreal Woodwind Chamber Group, Oscar Peterson, and the Montreal Jazz Festival.

The fonds provides information on the professional life of Canadian artist Bruce Le Dain.

It is comprised of journals held more or less regularly by Le Dain between 1963 and 1999. They include records of personal accounting and painting income summaries as well as some correspondence and press clippings.

The CORRESPONDENCE subseries includes letters exchanged with fellow Canadian artist John Little between 1974 and 1992. It also includes a binder of miscellaneous correspondence and memorabilia as well as some reference documentation on the subject of art.

The DISTINCTIONS subseries includes framed honours granted to Le Dain: an Honorary Life Membership to the Arts Club of Montreal in 1994 as well as a recognition from the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) for his contribution in the arts of painting in 1985.

The fonds also includes a wooden box custom-made by Le Dain, a box he used to store his tools when he was painting.

The fonds provides information on the editing and publishing work of Véhicule Press.

The fonds mainly documents the CIT and Concordia AV Department audio-visual productions and photographs made for the University community. There are also some textual administrative records, mostly composed of the documents of Gary Boyd, AV Assistant Director, Research & Development.

The fonds includes sound recordings (e.g. audio reels, compact cassettes) and moving images (e.g. film reels, video reels, videocassettes). For instance, the fonds contains most of the original audio reels of the SGWU Poetry series recorded for the English department between 1965 and 1974 (see the Concordia SpokenWeb project which uses this material). The fonds also includes photographs made by the AV Photographic section for the University community. This material is mainly composed of faculty and staff portraits and pictures of University events, dated between 1979 and 1994.

Dorothy Rath Fonds consist of records relating to Dorothy Rath as Layton’s friend. Records include correspondence between Rath and Layton, photographs of Dorothy Rath, Irving Layton, and friends, audio recordings of Layton’s public readings, video clips of Layton’s television appearances and book readings, newspaper clippings relating to Layton’s works, and promotional and publicity material regarding Layton’s appearances. The Negro Community Centre/Charles H. Este Cultural Centre fonds contains records relating to the operation of the Negro Community Centre/Charles H. Este Cultural Centre. It contains textual records and other materials documenting the mission; structure; administration; building and facilities; and programs and services offered at the Centre, dating from its founding in the late 1920s until it ceased its operations. The fonds also contains materials dating to after the closure of the Centre.

The fonds documents the history of the Negro Community Centre/Charles H. Este Cultural Centre, its role in Little Burgundy and the greater Montreal area, and its relationships to other organizations, including but not limited to the Coloured Women's Club of Montreal; Union United Church; Red Feather Services; Federated Appeal of Greater Montreal; and Centraide. The fonds also includes documentation related to the Walker Credit Union and Afro-Can. The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters is also mentioned in the documentation.

The Negro Community Centre/Charles H.
