The series illustrates the activities of the Quatuor de Jazz libre du Québec (1967-1975), the Val-David Artistic Colony (1970), the Ferme du Petit Québec libre (1970-1973) and l'Amorce (1972-1974), including the political dimension of these jazz-related initiatives.
The series includes, but is not limited to newspaper clippings, newsletters, statements, a historical overview, plans, project outline, a manifesto, pamphlets, and posters.

The series provides information on the merger which in 1974 saw Loyola College unite with Sir George Williams University to create Concordia University. It includes a variety of reports reflecting on the future of Loyola College, documents on the proposed merger, and documents related to the actual merger itself. Included are records on legal, financial, personnel, academic and administrative aspects.
The series contains correspondence, reports, news releases, clippings, petitions, s and submissions, meeting notices, minutes, the Savage/Despland report on the merger, membership lists, organization charts, memorandum of agreement, by-laws, enrolment statistics, and other records.
The series is organized into four sub-series.
Material consists of three poems written by Layton and published in newspapers. The first leaf of poems is entitled Two Poems by Irving Layton and includes the poems “At the Belsen Memorial,” and “Rhine Boat Trip.” The second leaf includes a poem published in The Covenant entitled “Dialogue.”
