Hingston Family fonds

The fonds consists mainly of correspondence received by Sir William Hales Hingston and a few letters received by Mrs. Hingston and their sons William, Donald, and Harold.

There are also photographs, press clippings, brochures, invitations, manuscripts of Sir William's writings, business cards, maps and objects. The fonds includes a scrapbook of press clippings relating to Sir William Hingston's political and professional life, an official document appointing him to the Ottawa Improvement Commission in 1902, the original letters patent related to Sir William's knighthood, and a circa 1889 photograph of Sir William. Also included is an album containing 92 wedding and travel photographs of the Hingston family.

The fonds consists of reports, studies, research materials, questionnaires and survey results stemming from the work of the Task Forces and resulting in the C-HEF’s publications

The fonds contains material related to C-HEF symposia on such topics as private sector investment in research & development and Canadian K-12 education reform. It also contains correspondence with members and associates of the C-HEF, related associations and Canadian federal government departments, as well as newsletters sent to members updating them on the C-HEF’s activities.

The fonds includes meeting notices, agendas, minutes and supporting documentation for monthly Board of Director meetings and annual general meetings. It contains press clippings documenting the coverage of C-HEF and its members’ activities and the response to the C-HEF’s publications. The fonds also contains photographic material from events such as annual general meetings and publication launches, and 117 slides from presentations, primarily given at the 1985 C-HEF Annual Meeting in Toronto.

Merrily Weisbord fonds

Fonds consists of research material and oral history interviews conducted by Merrily Weisbord for the writing of The Strangest Dream. The interviews cover various aspects of the evolution of the Communist Party of Canada (renamed the Labour Progressive Party in 1943) and the life of some of its Quebec members.

Fonds includes more than 20 hours of sound recordings consisting of interviews with about fifteen individuals who were members of the party between the 1930s and the 1950s, such as Lea Roback, Irene Kon, Gilles Hénault and Fred Taylor. All the players, from the upper middle class intellectual Stanley Ryerson to the working class lumber camp labour organizer, Gérard Fortin, are included. There is also a 15 minute recorded message by Paul Robeson urging Montreal voters to reelect Fred Rose in 1945. Fonds also includes interview notes and transcriptions, correspondence, and printed materials.

The Negro Community Centre/Charles H. Este Cultural Centre fonds contains records relating to the operation of the Negro Community Centre/Charles H. Este Cultural Centre. It contains textual records and other materials documenting the mission; structure; administration; building and facilities; and programs and services offered at the Centre, dating from its founding in the late 1920s until it ceased its operations. The fonds also contains materials dating to after the closure of the Centre.

The fonds documents the history of the Negro Community Centre/Charles H. Este Cultural Centre, its role in Little Burgundy and the greater Montreal area, and its relationships to other organizations, including but not limited to the Coloured Women's Club of Montreal; Union United Church; Red Feather Services; Federated Appeal of Greater Montreal; and Centraide. The fonds also includes documentation related to the Walker Credit Union and Afro-Can. The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters is also mentioned in the documentation.

The Negro Community Centre/Charles H. The fonds includes sound recordings (e.g. audio reels, compact cassettes) and moving images (e.g. film reels, video reels, videocassettes). For instance, the fonds contains most of the original audio reels of the SGWU Poetry series recorded for the English department between 1965 and 1974 (see the Concordia SpokenWeb project which uses this material). The fonds also includes photographs made by the AV Photographic section for the University community. This material is mainly composed of faculty and staff portraits and pictures of University events, dated between 1979 and 1994.

Il porte sur la scène du jazz montréalaise des années 1920 aux années 1960 et fait la chronique de la vie de trois femmes, Tina Baines Brereton, Bernice Jordan Whims et Olga Spencer Foderingham, qui ont fait partie de chorus lines dans des boîtes de nuit comme Rockhead's Paradise, The Terminal et le Café St-Michel.
