The Peter K. Johnston fonds contains documentation pertaining to the American Jazz musician Harry James (1916-1983) and the Big band era. The fonds primarily documents the musical career of Harry James as bandleader and trumpeter. It also includes information on the Montreal Vintage Music Society (MVMS), and on other jazz musicians, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Metcalf, Oscar Peterson, and Glenn Miller, among many others.

It includes notes on different artists and pedagogical notes on different books related to his master’s degree in art education. The TEACHING subseries is comprised of 1 sub-subseries: the SIR GEORGE WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY AND CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY sub-subseries is comprised of course notes and bibliographies of the Psychology 591 course, a “Guide pédagogique” sent to translation and research for his theses in team-teaching in art education. The TEACHING subseries also contains a notebook from Carisbrooke Grammar school and art exams from Northmount High School.

The CREATION AND ARTWORKS subseries is comprised of 2 sub-subseries. The MONTREAL sub-subseries is comprised of sketchbooks, drawings, artwork and unpublished works produced most notably in Montreal and at other places. The OTHERS sub-subseries is comprised of sketchbooks, drawings, artwork and unpublished works created before he moved to Montreal. It includes drawings of war times and many sketches of the Isle of Whight in the UK where his children were born.

The PROFESSIONNAL LIFE series also includes articles and different press clippings mentioning Frank Barry’s work. It includes records of his involvement in the Provincial Association of Protestant Teachers of Quebec (PAPT) and the Associations of Arts Specialists of the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal. The fonds provides information on Montreal's Black jazz scene from the 1920s to the 1960s, chronicling the lives of three women - Tina Baines Brereton, Bernice Jordan Whims, and Olga Spencer Foderingham - who danced in night clubs such as Rockhead's Paradise, The Terminal, and Café St. Michel.

The fonds consists of materials gathered, and in some cases created, during the National Film Board of Canada's production of Show Girls / Les Girls. It includes research notes, edited sequences on videotape, video tapes and transcripts of interviews with the film's principals, audio tapes of interviews with various sources, stock footage, shot lists, clippings of night clubs ads, historical reference books, and VHS copies of the documentary.

Quinn collection

The Quinn collection was gathered by Herbert Furlong Quinn between the 1930s and 1970s to support his research of political sciences.
The collection mainly presents a dozen Canadian political parties as well as several foreign parties using brochures and political newspapers covering the period from the 1930s to the early 1980s. The Canadian political parties represented are the Parti libéral du Québec, the Liberal Party of Canada, the New Democratic Party, the Progressive Labor Union, the Commonwealth Co-operative Federation, the Progressive Conservative Party, the Confederation of Catholic Workers in Canada, the National Union, the Social Credit Party of Canada, the Bloc Populaire, the Canadian Student Assembly, among others. The foreign parties covered by the collection are mainly the German Christlich Demokratische Union (CDU / CSU), but also the Socialist Workers' Party of America and the League for Industrial Democracy as well as the Republicans and Democrats during the American presidential campaign of 1964. In addition, the collection includes several years of the "Bulletin" (English version), published by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as brochures of the Portuguese government of the 1930s.
The collection also includes complementary material: First, there are articles and publications written by Herbert F. Quinn on multiple political subjects, including a manuscript of the book "L'Union nationale: le nationalisme québécois de Duplessis à Lévesque", published in 1979. Second, there is a selection of Canadian newspapers and clippings, covering the 1949 Canadian federal election campaign on the one hand, and the fascist movement around the world during the 1930s on the other.
Finally, the collection includes court transcripts relating to the occupation of the Sir George Williams University Computer Center in 1969, known as the Sir George Williams Affair.

The Quinn collection contains pamphlets, brochures, statements, newsletters, addresses, policy statements, transcripts, manifests, newspapers and newspaper clippings. An index of brochures is available.

It also consists of some SGWU Department of English records related to student academic activities in the 1940s and to public readings and lectures, and a few interviews, produced between 1966 and 1972.

The fonds mainly includes minutes of departmental meetings and some course timetables. It also includes some student papers in bound volumes and 63 sound recordings (80 audio reels) mainly composed of poetry readings (see the Concordia SpokenWeb project which uses this material) but also a few lectures given at SGWU. There are also loose typed sheets describing some of the SGWU poetry readings.

The collection consists of pictures, many of them produced under the auspices of the War Records Office of International News Agencies. The Collection contains news service photographs as well as photographs from the Canadian Armed Forces. Also included are original identifying captions that accompanied their transmission by news media wire services. Most of the photographers remain unidentified. They made their photographs while on assignment for international news agencies or the War Records Office for distribution to the news media.
