Robert Bob Redmond was a saxophonist and clarinetist. Born in 1923 in Verdun, Quebec, he resides in Alexandria, Ontario. He was self-taught and began a professional career in 1941 with the Al King Orchestra in Montreal's Auditorium Ballroom. He played with the Stardusters and the Johnny Holmes Orchestra before joining the Canadian Army at age 18 in 1942 where he also worked as a musician, performing in Canada and Europe during World War II. In 1946 he returned to civilian life in Montreal and a job with the Johnny Holmes Orchestra. Between 1947 and 1950 he played with the Johnny Gilbert dance band and the Ray Dawe Orchestra. When Montreal nightclubs began to close he began work in a textile distributing company which he eventually purchased and operated for 30 years. He worked part-time in music with the Escorts, the Bob Hopkins Orchestra, and later his own orchestra.

The Bob Redmond fonds provides information about Robert Redmond's life and his career as lead saxophonist with many bands like the Stardusters, the Escorts, and the Johnny Holmes Orchestra. It also provides information about Redmond's experience as a musician during World War II. Furthermore, it includes materials related to the history of Jazz in general and in Montreal in particular, as well as the big-band era in Montreal. The fonds includes several unpublished novels, poems and other texts written by Bob Redmond.
The fonds contains Redmond’s notes and essays as well as correspondence, sheet music, a scrapbook, clippings, photographs, publicity materials, directories, and books and magazines from Redmond’s library. It also contains audio cassettes, CDs, videocassettes, a DVD and over 300 audio discs
The audio discs were inventoried and jackets numbered 1-270 by Bob Redmond (some jackets contain more than 1 record).
Most of the audio cassettes were inventoried and annotated by Bob Redmond.
The documents were donated to the Concordia University Archives by Robert Redmond between 1990 and 2006. New donations were made to Concordia Libraries' Special Collections in 2015 and 2017. The fonds was transferred from Concordia University's Records Management and Archives Department to Concordia University Libraries' Special Collections March 16-17, 2016, March 22, 2016, April 20, 2016, April 26, 2016, May 3, 2016, and May 10, 2016.
